Gallery Mentions February 10

Hello, hello, blogger 'thused, (that's short for enthused by the way) I do have another set of nine fine blogs for your viewing and visiting enjoyment. Nine Fine, that's what I should have called this blog. If it were, and I had posted this yesterday, I could have titled this post, "Nine Fine on Friday Ninth," or some other catchy variation. Man,-- how-ever are we to be taken seriously with a name like "Glitter Burned?"

I only kid, we're doing pretty alright, frilly name and all. I'd say we're on fire. Speaking of fire, now for some of that buring-hot-off-the-presses-glitter. We've got books, teens, reviews and more.

Portuguese-language bloggers' are in for a treat as well, with almost half of the entry-crop written in the language. It seems GlitterBurned has a bit of a fanbase in Brazil, right on. To the Brazilian glitter-burnt bloggers, and every other blogger burning some glitter out there, may your surfing be merry and weekend fantastic.

Handy Blogger Resources #1

Hidey-ho Blogger fellows! Now that the gallery and blog is back in full-swing, it's high time to share some more handy Blogger resources. And times, they are-a-changing, at least for those of us on the Blogger platform recently.

9 New Entries for January 29

Right on schedule, nine new entries have been added to the gallery for your viewing and visiting enjoyment. Don't forget to add a star rating to the blogs you enjoy since at the moment commenting has been disabled due to an onslaught of spammers. While your at it, give these super blogs an additional shout out with a tweet using the handy tweet button in each entry post.

New Rule For Submissions!

Hello all. There have been a few changes at GlitterBurned. Most have gone off quietly, such as the overhaul of the 'Recent Entries" feature on the main page among others, while a few, such as the new rule regarding submissions I'm writing about today do necessitate an announcement.

New Rule Implemented & applied as of January 22, 2012: Entries to the gallery must be written in English.

This means, GlitterBurned is only accepting English language blogs at this time. Entries received prior to this date, (January 22, 2012) are not affected by the change, it will not apply to them.

While I truly wish that I did not have to restrict anyone, this rule has been implemented since I am unable to understand the content of blogs written in any other language. I aim for the gallery to consist of blogs with quality content, and I am simply unable to verify this fact about blogs that are not written in the English language.

I apologize to those of you with fabulous written in another language that are no longer elligible for acceptance in the gallery. I am sure that this new restriction will exclude many super blogs that otherwise would have been accepted. I hope you understand, Thank you.

New Entries January 18th and 22nd

Both the 18th and the 22nd of January saw a full front page full of new entries with nine on each day as GlitterBurned returns at full steam. Hope you enjoy and visit these lovely new members of the GlitterBurned family.

Hello! My name is Shalanda but my nickname is Shasie to my friends and in the blogging community. I'm 27 years old, and I am a Project Engineer, Fashionista by night.

Tell us about your blog.
The title of my blog is Live Life in Style (http://live-life-in-style.com), and this is the second naming of my blog. It originally started off as Shasie's Fashion Advice, but I soon came to realize that I didn't like "forcing" my opinion or style advice on others. My tips work for me, but they may not work for everyone else, and I'll let my readers decide that on their own. So I thought long and hard on what to rename my blog and then it hit me!! My friends always joke that I dress up for everything, even if it's casual. And I thought, well I like to always look stylish, so I'm living life in style!

Describe a popular feature/post or a favorite feature/post of your blog.
The more popular features on my blog have been Throwback Thursday and Fan Feature Friday. I started Throwback Thursday because I wanted to show some of my blog outfits from a year ago when my blog was less popular. Fan Feature Friday is a way for me to give back to my readers, by featuring a new reader and their style every week!!

I have a few. Please make sure you are blogging for the right reasons. I started blogging for myself, and to have a creative outlet to document my outfits outside of Facebook. I am not caught up in the number of fans I have, though I would love for my blog to grow, it is not my main focus. It's also good to network with other bloggers. Don't be that blogger that just posts and never checks out other blogs. Be genuine in your postings, and be yourself. No one wants to read blogs where they feel the person isn't being real to themselves.

Tell us about your personal favorite blog or blogs, or share one that you would recommend to others.
I actually follow a ton of blogs, and no longer have one favorite. I follow blogs from people with only 3 followers to those with over 4000 followers. I like following the smaller blogs, because they respond to your comments and it's more personal. Blogs with over 200 comments on one entry, my comment is going to be lost in the mix, and they probably don't have time to respond to all of their commenters anyway, which is a turnoff. I started blogging as a push from my friends and them introducing me to Jessica Quirk's Blog: What I Wore . It was her own personal style blog, and it was and still is hugely popular. It sparked my creative juices to start a fashion blog of my own. So I definitely recommend her blog to everyone, and she just launched her first style book!

Crossword Unclued talks about crosswords of the cryptic kind. I write on various aspects of the word game – solving tips for beginners, guide to cryptic clue types, analysis of published crosswords and crossword-related trivia.

I have been blogging for close to three years now and am enjoying every minute of it.

Describe a popular feature/post or a favorite feature/post of your blog.
My first-ever post on the blog continues to be the most popular - a 7-step guide to solving cryptic crosswords.

The article that gets the most traffic via social bookmarks is about a special crossword from the New York Times, which was published during the US elections of 1996.

Of the articles posted in the last year, my personal favorites are those I gave a lot of time and thought to: Do you make these mistakes when writing clues? and Failures in solving crosswords: A statistical study.

Do you have any blogging tips you'd like to share, or have any advice for fellow bloggers or would be bloggers?
My top three tips -
(1) Blog about topics you truly care about. When you’re interested in your own writing, your audience will be interested too. Enthusiasm is contagious.
(2)  Don’t worry about doing things “right”. There is no single right way of blogging. Go by what makes sense and feels good to you.
(3) Participate. Engage with your readers and other bloggers. For me the best side-effect of blogging has been getting to know some wonderful people.

I read several fascinating blogs and find it hard to pick favorites. Since Glitterburned is about web design, I’ll mention my favorites from this niche – Smashing Magazine, Line25, BlogSpoon Graphics and Nymphont.
